BioHack: Iron Deficiency Anemia and Vit D3 Levels

This is the first of a new category of posts on biohacking.

The Relationship between Vitamin D Levels and Iron Deficiency and Anemia in Adults Applied for Periodic Medical Examination

Conclusions: The findings of this large study population, who live in a Mediterranean city which is sunny for 300 days of the year, indicate that 25(OH)D deficiency is significantly associated with iron deficiency and/or anemia.

So what?  This means that if you have iron deficiency anemia – check your Vit D levels.  This can be done via a blood test at your GP.   Biohackers will likely know that a level of this vitamin over 100 nmol/l is your target.  They also know that getting this vitamin built using the pathway involving sun exposure has superior effects to just taking lots of little capsules.

Definitely get this checked before you gobble any more iron supplements or have iron infusions.
