As I was sitting here in Tropical Townsville enjoying the early part of the “wet season”, I decided to have a think about the important components of success.
I have had great success in life from looking at things, breaking them down to smaller pieces, and observing how they fit together.
And there appears to be four obvious parts to success in general – or at least four parts to consider or change to reach your success.
Part One – What we believe we are ‘allowed’ to do. Think of all the ‘programs’ that we absorbed as children to keep us safe. Most we gained as small children by modelling our parents/teachers. Do we ‘deserve’ to be/do/have [success definition]
Part Two – What we believe we CAN do. Am I actually capable of doing the tasks involved?
Part Three – What we want, what we consider ‘success’ to be. Need to have a destination.
Part Four – Taking actions to get what we want.
Even if we just give a 25% percent weighting to each part, we can see that the first two are a major part of what is usually left out in most of the “goal setting courses” we can find using google. Most will ask you to decide what you want, then create action plans and milestones and schedules and boxes to tick.
Others – with many variations on misinterpretations of the Law of Attraction will just ask you list what you want then apply your imagination to have it already exist for you. And then just wait expectantly.
Many will point out that often just writing down your New Years Eve resolutions, and then checking them next New Year’s eve – does work quite well – sometimes.
There are those who work on the BE, DO, HAVE version – where all attention is focused on BEing the person who deserves the defined success, has the capability, the clear definition of success, and who takes the actions that such a person would normally take.
If I am BEing a rock star, I will have the belief I have the talent [eg to perform], I will know what it looks like to be rock star – and I will take action [concerts, albums, etc]. However – if I miss any of the steps – it may be a short career.
Eg – if as a child I was taught by a Catholic nun – who misguidedly planted the seed that I was a sinner and that I did not deserve anything good in life because I was day-dreaming in class [a bit severe – but it happens]. “You will never amount to anything” sort of thing. And this negative programming was never removed or balanced by more positive scripts – then your subconscious will eventually sabotage any progress to staying a rock star. Regardless of how much musical talent you have. If you feel you don’t “deserve” it – even super efforts in the other 3 areas will not sustain the success.
So what is the most important step in goal setting? Or in designing your life?
Well – if like me you believe that a major purpose in life is to identify and evaluate programs [or scripts or beliefs or whatever YOU call them] that we accepted unconsciously as children to keep us safe – then a great place to start is “Do I deserve this thing I am choosing as a specific goal?”
“Really?” “Do I really deserve it?” And if there is a vague or even solid feeling in your midriff – like a “clutching” feeling – then you have some programs to thank and release. So picture yourself having the item or condition listed as a goal – and there is a ‘clutching’ in your gut – that is your subconscious ‘talking’ to you. It is just letting you know that there is a program there that is going to ‘resist’.
Darn. So what do we do now?
Well – that is the subject for another post very soon – so be sure you are subscribed. Don’t be too concerned – just being aware of the clutching and what it means has started you on the right path already.
Have a groovy day
